"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity." - Albert Einstein

As of today, Mr. PF and I are 550 days into a 758 day engagement (holy crap). Looking back on it, it doesn't feel that long ago. We have been engaged since February 13, 2010 and opted for a long engagement for several reasons.
1. We wanted to save money for our big day.
2. We knew we wanted a destination wedding and we wanted to give people enough time to save up money if they wanted to go.
3. My best friend got married last year and I was busy helping her with her wedding
4. We were happy with the way things were going. We didn't see any urgency to get married right away.
Now that we are 6 months, 7 days, 2 hours and 5 minutes away (Who's counting, right?), I feel like things are finally coming together. I can finally tell people I am getting married 'March 2012" and I don't get a crazy wonky eyed look response. Imagine telling someone that in February 2010? Um, yeah.... Wonky eyes commence.

A big part of me wishes we hadn't waited so long. I am so ready to be his wife and he is ready to be my husband. In the end, I know that these next 7 months will probably go faster than we want them to. I still have a ton of DIY projects I need to finish (I mean start) and a whole lot more planning to do.
I guess the point of this post is that I am finally getting into the "fun" part of wedding planning and I am just gonna sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. It's not worth the headache to get upset about silly things that really don't matter. We are going to be husband and wife and the day will be perfect no matter what!

My fiancé and I chose to have a two year, three week engagement and were now about 330 days away. I completely agree that I would get married tomorrow if I had the funds but having two years is exactly what we needed. I also can't wait to be HIS wife and don't feel weird by just saying were getting married in June instead of June (followed by the phrase '2012'). Happy planning and cannot wait to read more.

We're having a long engagement, too... 829 days. For us it was more about being petrified of the cost. But I figured we should just treat it like a Band-Aid, you know? Rip that sucker off and get on with the planning already!
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for being so chill about it now! I'm sure it'll make the process much more memorable. :-)
Yay! That's awesome. I was engaged on February 13th too! (2011 here)
ReplyDeleteMy engagement will be 607 days. Not so long when I compare it to yours and Shannon's. Only 432 to go!. Lol. I know how you feel about the looks though. It's annoying when folks wonder why we're waiting so long.
Congrats on being so much closer than you were when it started! Enjoy every minute!
@ Laura- Yay for engagement date twins!
